Privacy Policy

How New Release collects, uses, protects and shares information across accounts, reminders, support and analytics.

Last updated 26 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how New Release (“New Release”, “we”, “us” or “our”) handles personal information when you use newreleases.name.ng and its related features. It applies to this website only. Third-party websites and services have their own policies.

Plain-language summary: you can browse without an account. We collect only the information needed to operate the service, answer messages, deliver reminders, understand site performance and protect the website. We do not sell personal information.

1. Who is responsible for your information

New Release is responsible for deciding how personal information collected through this website is used. Questions, requests or complaints can be submitted through our contact page.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide. If you contact us, we may receive your name, email address, the request category, subject, message and any information you choose to include.

Release reminders. If you choose “Remind me”, we may store the email address you provide, the release you selected, its expected release date, your default-reminder preference, delivery status and operational logs needed to send or troubleshoot the notification. You do not need an account to use a reminder.

Usage and technical information. Our lightweight first-party analytics may record the page URL and type, relevant release identifiers, timestamp, referring page, campaign parameters, browser user-agent, device category, approximate country, supported-browser installation events and whether the site was opened in standalone app mode. We use a one-way hash of an IP address to distinguish requests and help prevent abuse; the readable IP address is not stored in our analytics database. An IP geolocation service may briefly process the address to return a country code, after which we retain only the country and one-way hash.

Device storage. We may use essential session storage, cookies or browser local storage to remember preferences, preserve security controls and, when you request it, remember a default reminder email on that device. You can clear this information through your browser.

3. Why we use information

  • To provide pages, search, calendars, release information and other requested features.
  • To schedule and deliver release reminders you request.
  • To answer enquiries and process privacy, support or copyright requests.
  • To understand aggregate usage, improve navigation and diagnose technical problems.
  • To secure the website, rate-limit abusive activity and prevent fraud or misuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations and establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, we rely on your consent, performance of a service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the website, or compliance with a legal obligation. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier lawful processing.

4. Release-reminder choices

A reminder is optional. If you select the option to use an email as your default, the website may remember it on your device so later reminders can be created with fewer steps. You can change or clear that preference at any time. Reminder emails are transactional messages about the releases you selected; we do not treat a reminder request as permission to send unrelated marketing.

Release dates can change and delivery can be affected by providers, networks or email filters. We use reasonable efforts to send a requested notice on the recorded release date, but cannot guarantee delivery at an exact time. You may ask us to cancel pending reminders through the contact page.

5. Catalogue providers, links and embedded media

New Release displays catalogue information, artwork or related material supplied by services such as Deezer, Last.fm, TMDb, YouTube and JustWatch. Your browser may connect to a provider when its image, preview, trailer or other resource loads. If you choose to play media or follow an external link, the provider receives the ordinary technical information associated with that request and applies its own privacy policy.

When advertising measurement is enabled, we use the Meta Pixel to understand visits and build relevant advertising audiences. It receives ordinary browser and page-view information; New Release does not send payment-card fields, passwords or private account details through the Pixel.

Our hosting and email providers process limited information on our behalf so they can deliver web pages, maintain security logs and send requested messages. We require service providers to handle information only for legitimate operational purposes.

6. When information may be shared

We may share information with service providers acting for us, when required by law or a valid legal process, to protect users or the service, in connection with a genuine business reorganisation, or when you direct or consent to the sharing. We do not sell or rent personal information and do not share reminder emails for third-party marketing.

7. Retention

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including service delivery, security, dispute resolution and legal compliance. Pending reminder data is kept until the reminder is delivered, cancelled or no longer operationally necessary; delivery logs may be kept for a limited period to diagnose failures and prevent abuse. Contact records are retained while a request is active and for a reasonable period afterward. Analytics data is periodically aggregated, pruned or deleted.

8. Security

We use administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information, including access controls, secure connections, input validation, rate limiting, restricted administrative access and routine maintenance. No internet service can promise absolute security. If we identify a breach that requires notice, we will notify affected people and regulators as required by applicable law.

9. International processing

Some catalogue, hosting, email or infrastructure providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where applicable law requires it, we use recognised safeguards or rely on another lawful basis for those transfers.

10. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 where it applies, you may have rights to be informed; request access, correction or deletion; object to or restrict processing; receive portable data; withdraw consent; and complain to a competent data-protection authority. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Because our analytics records do not contain a readable IP address and may not directly identify you, we may be unable to connect a particular analytics record to you. We will explain this rather than make an unreliable match. You may contact the Nigeria Data Protection Commission or the regulator responsible for your location if you believe your rights have been infringed.

11. Children

The service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child who cannot lawfully provide it. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted information should contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, remove it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our features, providers or legal obligations change. The “Last updated” date will show the latest revision. If a change materially affects how we use information already collected, we will provide additional notice where required.

13. Contact us

Use the contact form for privacy questions or rights requests. Please select the most relevant request category and do not include passwords, payment details or other sensitive information.
